Skwachays Lodge Aboriginal Hotel

Sabina Hill with Mark Preston

Sabina Hill, along with six talented teams of Aboriginal artists and Vancouver interior designers, joined together to transform the Vancouver Native Housing Society residence into the Skwachàys Lodge Aboriginal Boutique Hotel – a new, sustainable model for supportive housing, and a for-profit hospitality business. Sabina teamed up with two of Vancouver's top interior design firms, MCM Interiors and Inside Design Studio, as well as her longtime artistic collaborator, Tlingit artist Mark Preston, to transform four of the 18 rooms. Sabina combined Preston's elegant formline motifs with her contemporary design aesthetic to create original artworks that celebrate both traditional First Nations artistry and modern interpretation.

  • Paddle Suite 604Crisscrossed in mighty rivers, dotted with lakes and bordered by the Pacific Ocean, water is a defining feature of British Columbia's landscape. These vast waterways have served as a means of transportation and source of sustenance for Aboriginal communities throughout their history. Artist Sabina Hill was inspired by the essential relationship First Nations have with these bodies of water to design her artworks for the Paddle Suite.
