Writing Table, Lectern and Frieze

Sabina Hill

Commissioned by Global Affairs Canada for the Canadian Chancery, Mexico City, Mexico.

Sabina contemporized and abstracted the iconic Northwest coast formline, ovoid and welcome hands creating three pieces for the atrium space used to host international speakers and guests.

Her continued exploration of solid and void are expressed on her signature adze textures and reference the U-form on the table legs and ovoids arranged to create a totemic lectern. Fifteen welcome hands are patterned in relief to form the frieze for the speaker's podium. Colours complement the featured painted Northwest coast totem pole along with the white stone tiles on which the pieces reside.
