Sabina Hill - New Works, Fall 2011

IDSwest 2011

This year's Interior Design Show West (IDS West) was a smashing success as artists and designers came together to display their latest creative efforts. This year, Sabina Hill showcased the first piece in her latest collection, the Thunderbird Chair.

Situated between Brent Comber and Martha Sturdy, Sabina Hill’s booth wowed both designers and the general public. Inspired by the runways of New York and Milan, Sabina paid tribute to the world of fashion by presenting her pieces on a catwalk. She invited guests to sit, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of what is surely one of Canada's leading design events.

The Thunderbird Chair is the first piece in the Harvest Collection, representing a new direction for the designer as she introduces soft goods into her northwest coast style. This limited edition chair also features the exclusive designs of First Nations artist Andy Everson. The original First Nations art seen here symbolizes the thunderbird, a mythical bird that represents power and can manifest lightning and thunder. The chair is made of solid walnut, ebonized inlays and hand-sewn Italian leather with diamond tufted detailing, reflecting the traditions of the past while speaking to the future of design.

Salmon Skin

Coming this season...

We also wanted to offer you a hint of what is to come this season.

The Harvest Collection is about gathering natural materials from the earth’s bounty and integrating them into our daily life. This season, Sabina Hill will introduce tanned salmon skins into her work, inserting elements of this unique material into her pieces, adding layers of texture, colour and luxury to any space.

Sabina's artwork is available to collectors, interior designers, architects, and specifiers. Her collections are on display at select contemporary galleries and are also available for purchase directly through Sabina Hill Design Inc.
